Written for the soprano Nicole Rose. Dedication: "To Nicole Rose, Devilwoman". Performed by Vivian Houle (soprano) and conducted by Evan Houle with Kokoro Dance at Round House Theatre, Yaletown, Vancouver, in Canada on 20 March 2009. European première performed by the NTNU Institute of Music Percussion Ensemble at Kammersalen, Olavshallen in Trondheim, Norway, 8 December , 2010 with Beate Mordal, soprano. Pagan Prayer is a dramatic setting of two poems by Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867), Le Rebelle and La Prière d’un Païen. As well as singing, the soprano soloist is required to beat upon metal plates.
